TWO OF THE "MASS RIOTS" CASES

SEPTEMBER 16
Pavel Ustinov, 23, a recent graduate of a Moscow-based Higher School of Theatrical Arts, has been sentenced to 3,5 years of prison on the "mass riots" case. The conviction is based on a muscle stretch experienced by a guard who detained Ustinov during the rally of July 27 - despite a video proving that Ustinov was brutally beaten by several law-enforcement guards during the alleged unlawful resistance act.

SEPTEMBER 18

A recent graduate of an IT specialization, Aydar Gubaidulin, 26, was arrested for allegedly throwing an empty plastic bottle in the direction of riot policemen detaining protestors during the July 27 rally in Moscow. Even though the plastic bottle did not actually reach anyone, Aydar was arrested and denied possibility of bail, since the judge ruled that Aydar's higher education had provided him with some *mysterious* "criminal skills necessary to obstruct investigation". On September 18, Aydar has been released and the case against him was returned to the prosecutor's office for review.
